USA Canada Youth Exchange Network

4th Annual Conference

Feb. 20-23, 2003 – Orlando, Florida

What's Going On?

It's the fourth annual conference of the USA-Canada Youth Exchange Network, bringing together Rotary Youth Exchange leaders and participants from throughout North America and around the world. The Conference Agenda topics include discussion of many aspects of the Rotary YE program, and will appeal to long-time veterans, program newcomers, and everyone in between. And of course, there'll be plenty of time and opportunity to make new friends, renew old friendships, and share that unique Rotary Youth Exchange fellowship.

When and Where?

Come join us in sunny Orlando, Florida, February 20-23, 2003. Activities get underway with a cocktail reception on Thursday evening, Feb. 20, and conclude with a gala banquet dinner on Saturday, Feb. 22.  New: Can't get enough Rotary Youth Exchange? We've added a "Breakfast Blitz" for Sunday morning. See the agenda for details!

Our host hotel is the Sheraton World Resort on International Drive, next to SeaWorld and within minutes of Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando, shopping, restaurants, golf courses and Orlando International Airport. The hotel's excellent facilities and beautiful grounds will provide a perfect setting for our conference, and they've guaranteed our group the best room rate that our event has ever enjoyed - just US$79 per night!

To help you make a vacation out of it, and take advantage of everything that Orlando has to offer, the Sheraton World Resort will honor our special rate for up to three days before and three days after the Conference.

Make your hotel reservations directly with the Sheraton World Resort, by calling toll-free 1-800-327-0363 or 1-407-352-1100. Be sure to tell them you're with the Rotary Youth Exchange conference when you call, to guarantee our special discounted room rate. Deadline for hotel reservations is January 25, 2003 (after that date, rate and availability are not guaranteed).

Who Should Attend?

This Conference is for everyone who is involved or interested in Rotary Youth Exchange:

  • District and Multi-District Youth Exchange Chairpersons, Officers, and Committee Members
  • Rotary Club Youth Exchange Officers and Committee Members
  • District Governors, District Governor Elects, and District Governor Nominees
  • District and Club International Service Chairpersons and Committee Members
  • International Youth Exchange Chairpersons and Committee Members

What About Family Members and Exchange Students?

Bring 'em along! After all, this is Orlando, the family entertainment capital of the world! Invite them to join us for the banquet - extra banquet tickets are just $40 each. And for the exchange students, we have a special package available!

Dress Code

This is Florida! Formal wear, including suits, ties, gowns, and fancy dresses, are not acceptable. For the Saturday night banquet, we are requesting Hawaiian shirts and the like. Please don't make us take out the scissors to modify your tie!

How Do I Register?

Easy! Just complete the Conference Registration Form. Then print it, sign it, and fax it to Conference Chair Al Kalter at 1-904-230-2813. (Why fax instead of e-mail? Just for safety with your credit card number. Thanks for asking.) Register before January 1 to save on the Conference Registration Fee. And be sure to make your hotel reservations before January 15 - after that date, we can't guarantee room availability or rates.

Questions?

E-mail your questions to rotary@kaltermail.com, or call Conference Chair Al Kalter at home (1-904-230-2817) or work (1-800-879-2779 or 1-904-880-5560).

Special Exchange Student Package

Rotarians are encouraged to bring along their inbound exchange students, as well as outbounds-to-be if desired. We've put together a special package for students:

  • 3 nights lodging in the Sheraton World Resort (Thursday thru Saturday night, 4 students per room, of course, hopefully of a single gender )
  • Admission to Sea World on Friday (walking distance from the hotel)
  • 3-day pass on the I-Ride International Drive Trolley
  • Banquet ticket for Saturday night
  • Participation in a special Exchange Student Workshop on Saturday afternoon, featuring (a) panel discussion of the RYE program from the students’ viewpoint – what’s good, what’s bad, what can be done better, how we can get more participation, etc., and (b) a session on preparing for the eventual return home – readapting to parents and friends, reverse culture shock, and so on

The cost per student is just $150 inclusive. Please use the student registration form to take advantage of this opportunity.

Note that this package does not include conference lunches, refreshment breaks, or, of course, the cocktail party. Responsibility for the students remains that of their host district, and the conference will not provide chaperones or arrange special transportation. If you'd rather have the student(s) in your room or make other lodging arrangements, you can still purchase banquet tickets for them ($40), and they are certainly welcome at the Saturday afternoon sessions at no additional charge.
