Record Number of Applicants for Long-Term 2004-05

The District 6970 Youth Exchange Committee is pleased to announce that a record number of applications has been received from candidates for outbound exchanges in 2004-05. When district interviews are held in January, 30 area teenagers will be be seeking placement overseas next year as Rotary exchange students.

Members of the District YE Committee visited a number of high schools around northeast Florida this fall, and candidates surfaced from a dozen different schools: Bartram Trail, Buchholz, Douglas Anderson, Eastside, Edward White, Episcopal, Fernandina Beach, Gainesville, Nease, Paxon, Ridgeview, and Santa Fe are each sending one or more applicants to the interviews.

We wish all the students the best of luck in their interviews, and we look forward to getting to know them better as they pursue their dreams as Rotary exchange students.

Application Deadline Approaches for Long-Term Applicants

December 15 is the deadline for applications to be received from students in northeast Florida who wish to apply for the Long-Term Exchange Program in 2004-05. Interested candidates should work with their local Rotary clubs to properly complete and submit the application forms in advance of the deadline. Questions about the application can be addressed to any member of the District 6970 Youth Exchange Committee, or to rotary@kaltermail.com. Students will be notified of their interview appointments shortly after the December 15 deadline.

Students interested in the Short-Term Exchange Program for summer 2004 have until January 31 to submit their application forms, but the sooner those are received the better the student's chances of obtaining a desired destination for the exchange.

Applicants Now Being Sought for 2004-05

Fall has arrived, and that means that District 6970 is now looking for area high schoolers interested in applying to be Rotary exchange students for the 2004-05 year. Members of the District Youth Exchange Committee and local Rotarians will be visiting schools during the next two months, talking to students, and encouraging those students to apply for the program.

To qualify, students must be (1) currently attending a high school in one of the twelve northeast Florida counties that make up our Rotary District, (2) in the top half of the class academically, (3) born in 1986, 1987, or 1988, (4) willing to learn a new language, and (5) adventurous, adaptable, and outgoing. If you fit those qualifications, contact a member of your local Rotary Club, speak to one of our representatives at your high school, or complete and submit our Inquiry Form.

Completed applications are due in to the District no later than December 15 (prior to which students will be interviewed and, if successful, sponsored by their local Rotary clubs). District-level interviews will take place in January for all students whose applications are properly submitted on time.
