Outbound Orientations
- March and April, 2005
Outbound Orientation Weekend - April 22-24, 2005
Twenty
outbounds-to-be spent the weekend of April
22-24 together at the Montgomery Conference Center, learning some of the
procedural parts of the Youth Exchange program, discussing topics from
host families to school to travel advice to the famous "Four D's", and
getting to know one another better. It was a weekend to watch friendships
form among the group that will be sharing adventures around the world in
the months to come.
There were group sessions and breakout discussions, and the
second musical rehearsal for the upcoming District Conference, plus
recreation time on Saturday afternoon on the camp's Challenge Course and
in the lake. On Sunday, the parents came in for presentations on travel,
finance, insurance, medical concerns, and more, highlighted by the
students doing their target language introductions during lunch. And they
all did it very well! It's safe to say that everyone learned a lot, and
had some fun doing it.

Introductory Workshop - March 6, 2005
District 6970's Outbound Class of 2005-06 came together for
the first time on the first Sunday in March, gathering at Ravine Gardens
State Park for a day that focused on foreign language acquisition and
public speaking, with a bit of singing practice thrown in as well. Most of
the current inbounds attended as well, to meet the students who will be
going to their countries and as part of the "Exchange Student Chorus" that
will entertain Rotarians at the upcoming District Conference.
