Outbound Orientation (Cultural Boot Camp) - June,
2005
Outbound Orientation Weekend - June 3-5, 2005
More
students, more activities, more fun. The first weekend in June served up
the final orientation sessions for District 6970's
outbound class of 2005-06. This time we
were joined by 11 other outbounds from
District 6990, our
neighbors in south Florida and Grand Bahama Island, along with our friend
Sam from Atlanta District 6900.
The weekend was filled with a variety of cultural awareness
exercises and activities, culminating with the "Send-off Luncheon",
featuring the presentation of graduation certificates and touching
speeches. The students enjoyed the chance to meet outbounds from another
district, and also benefited from the presence of Dr. Dennis White from
Wisconsin and Scott Wisner from New York.
The weather and schedule both allowed for a few hours on
the high ropes course and climbing wall, as well as a dip in the lake.
There was also time for discussion with Rotex, and, in the end, the
realization that a transition was about to occur, as the departure date
for these students approaches. They will see each other one more time, at
the Welcome Home Dinner on July 21, before they start boarding flights for
their overseas destinations and the adventures that await them.
