Outbound Orientation Workshop - February, 2007
First Orientation for the Class of 2007-08

District 6970's brand new outbound
class of 2007-08 gathered together for the first time on February 17th, for a
one-day introductory workshop that focused on foreign language acquisition and public
speaking. The day-long orientation took place at Ravine Gardens State Park in
Palatka, and provided the students a chance to get to know each other as they
prepare to share an adventure of a lifetime.
After a welcome by District Governor Brent Williams, the students worked on language exercises and presented their
initial attempts at using their target languages. A group of current inbounds
and Rotex volunteers joined them for some of the fun and the work, and they
enjoyed a presentation by Belgian inbound Audrey Vandegaar to kick off the
afternoon. Mandarin Rotarian Jim Akers, a
former Toastmasters District Governor, once again joined us and lent his expertise to the public speaking
segment.

All in all, it was a good first time together for the Outbound
Class of 2007-08, the largest group ever sponsored by District 6970. Certainly, they
are looking forward to their next
orientation in March, as they continue down the path of preparation for their
exchange opportunities. |
