Inbound Fall Weekend - October 12-14, 2007

It was a beautiful fall weekend in Florida, as our 2007-08
inbound students came together for the first time since Orientation in August.
Rotary clubs in the Daytona Beach area organized the weekend and hosted the
students, who enjoyed a visit to the Kennedy Space Center, a barbecue dinner in
Titusville, and an excursion via Amtrak train to the Winter Park Art Festival.
Daytona Beach West Rotarian Tom McDermott started the weekend
off right with a pool party at his home on Friday night. Many individuals went
swimming, some willingly, and some not. The weekend host families then came to
pick up their students for the evening. Saturday morning started early with the
drive to Cape Canaveral and a tour of the world-famous Kennedy Space Center.
Late in the afternoon, we headed over to a barbecue, followed by the trip back
to Daytona. On Sunday, another early start was required, as we drove to the
DeLand train station for the trip to Winter Park. After spending the day there,
the train took us back to DeLand, and we all headed for home.
| Special thanks
to Titusville (District 6930) Rotarian Marcia Ely, who opened up her
home, pool, and jacuzzi to our students on Saturday night. We were all
made to feel right at home by Marcia, her fellow Rotarians, District
6930 Governor Phil Lustig, D6930 Youth Exchange Chair Hap Mills, and
D6930 Youth Services Coordinator Peter Castello. It was a wonderful,
personal way to bring life to our new Florida multi-district. |
