Agathou's Bio

Hey, I am Agathou! I come from the north of France and I am 16. I have a very nice sister of 15 and two crazy brothers (but I love them!) of 13 and 10 years old. Here, I live in Orange Park in a great family, with one boy of 17, Logan, and triplets of 12, Amanda, Lauren, and Tommy. I love them! They are so nice!

I am fond of tennis and all the other sports, and I hope that I will be on the tennis team at school. My goals are to speak English fluently and to have lots of fun!

Arrival in Jacksonville

An impressive welcoming committee (the Poidevant family) turned out to greet Agathe.

Agathe with her traveling companion Pauline, after their long series of flights.

September 27 Journal

Hey everybody! Waoooo! I am here since 7 weeks! That's crazy! Everything passed so fast!

Everything started with my arrival. I traveled with Pauline another French exchange student and we missed our plane in Washington! We ran everywhere and we missed it by just 5 minutes! We had to wait 4 hours for the next plane! That was horrible, I was freezing! But now, when I am thinking at this moment, it was awesome! That's a very good memory and I'll never forgot it!

Now, I am living in an awesome family! My host parents Diane and Lee are really really nice and my new brothers and sisters Logan, Tommy, Lauren and Amanda are awesome. I love them!

One of my best memories is the weekend at Camp Montgomery with all the other exchange students. We did lots of things and I think that everybody had lots of fun. It was awesome and I await the next weekend with them with impatience!

I went to a football game. That was one of my dreams so thank you very much Diane and Lee! Jacksonville Jaguars against Washington Redskins! Some people were crazy, like in France for a soccer game! There were the cheerleaders, the music band ... like in the movies! And now, I understand the rules, that's a very cool sport!

Otherwise, I played paintball, I did kneeboard, tube, I went to the movie, to a laser show in Atlanta and I tried surfing. That was not very easy but I stood up several times. I had lots of fun!

I go to school in Ridgeview High School in Orange Park. That's a very big school, maybe two times bigger than my school in France. But I prefer this school! We start school at 7:20am that's very hard but we finish at 1:30pm! That's awesome! I have English, American history, American government, Spanish, photography and weight lifting (I didn't choose this subject but I have fun!). I start to have good friends, lots of boys, so I start to "like" school! Maybe one negative thing: I eat a hamburger with French fries every day! I think that I am gonna be allergic to this food before the end of the year!

I don't know if my English is better now but in any case I understand better than at the beginning of the year. When I arrived here, English was like Chinese, I understood nothing! Now, I also dream in English. That's great!

OK, I think that's enough for this month. I just want to say two things: I really don't want to go back to France and thanks to everybody that makes this year possible!

Bye

December 20 Journal

Hi everybody!! I am very late and I feel terrible!! Also I just realized that we are in December and that half of the year passed! That s horrible! So I try to take advantage of every day! I remember my first morning here, I think I stayed two or three hours in my bedroom because I was scary to go downstairs! Or I couldn't understand anything. I don't know how many times I said what ??? And since October, lots of things happened again.

On October 31st, it was Halloween. With my host family, we went to a kind of festival. I don't really know how to call that! But there were lots of things for the kids and that was fun! And I took a huge spider in my hand! I don't know why I did that because I hate spider! And that spider was huge with hairs, big legs and all of that!! Horrible!!

And I also went to a party but this time with some of the exchange students: Emma, Jane, Ania and Teresa. It was at Ania's house. We were all disguised and we did some games like bobbing for apples . I think that Emma really like it! She spent 10 minutes in the water!! Hein Emma!!!! We had great time!!

School is great too! Last week was the exams week so that was not so much fun! I think I did ok. I am also in the soccer varsity team. I have so much fun! I have never played soccer before except in my backyard with my brothers because in France, soccer is a boy sport! The girls in the team are great, we have team dinners and we are undefeated!! I don't play a lot but I have a lots of fun!!

At the end of October I moved in my second family. Thanks to my first host family again because I had an awesome time with them! My new family is very nice too. Now I live with 3 boys, Anthony, Nick and Chris and we do lots of things.

On November 8th, we went to the PET farm (Personal Energy Transportation ). That's one of the projects of my host Rotary club. They built wheelchairs for people who have lost the use of their legs and send them in about 29 countries all other the world. So that morning, we went there to participate in the building of those wheelchairs. An other morning, we went helping to built a house. The house was almost finished but we laid the sod around the house. That was fun and I was happy to help to do that.

On November 11th, Veteran's Day (in France too) we went to St Augustine to the light house. That light house is huge! That was very cool! And another day, we came back and we walked in the center of St. Augustine. I really liked it because it reminded me of France a little bit, with the old and smalls streets, the smalls shops, the old buildings... That's a very nice town .

On November 27th, it was Thanksgiving, a new thing for me because we don't have that day in France. We went to my host mum's sister's house. We had a very good meal, turkey, and I tried the ham with syrup. That s kind of weird when I think about it but that's good!! So we had a good meal, we watched football and I was happy to meet all their family. A big family!! They were all very nice to me so I had a very good time.

The next day, I went to mall with some friends. The worst day to go there! The mall was crowded! That was crazy!!

On November 29th, we went to Daytona Beach to see a car show. That was awesome! There were I don't know about 500 cars maybe more!! Old cars, new cars... cars everywhere! That was another very good day!!

After that, on December 5th, 6th, and 7th it was Disneyworld. One of the best weekend of my life!! We were about 80 exchange students from all other the world. It was crazy!! And that was very cool to see all the exchange student from our district. The first weekend we had together, we were all very shy and now we are like best friends! That's great!

On Friday morning, we had to get up at 5:30 to be at Magic Kingdom at 7:00 before the park opened to the public. We did Space Mountain two times, one time with the lights on and the other time in the dark. It was awesome! After that, we spent the day in the park and we had lots of fun. When we came back, we had a pizza party and some of us went to a club at Pleasure Island. It was a great day!!

On Saturday morning (very tired!) we went to Animal Kingdom, a very big zoo and the afternoon, we went to EPCOT. It was freezing!! I never imagined that it could get so cold here!! So we did Mission Space, and the Test Track and after that, we went to the World showcase. A place where lots of different countries are represented. There were France, Germany, China, Japan, Norway, the USA, Canada, Morocco, Mexico, Italy and the United Kingdom. Every time, we had the impression to be in the country. That's awesome! And at night, we had a big firework show over the EPCOT lake. A great day too!

And the last day, Sunday, we went to the Disney MGM studios. We did the Tower of Terror, the Aerosmith Roller Coaster and we also went to the place where they show how they do some special effects and the studios.

After that, we had to leave and that was not very funny!

I'd like to thank Al, all the chaperones and my host Rotary club for that awesome trip.

Christmas will be here very soon and next months, I am sure I'll have lots of things to say .

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
