Ricki's Bio

My name is Aase Fredrikke Ledang, known in America as "Ricki". I am a 17 years old teenager from a town called Kristiansand, which is in the southern part of Norway.

My decision in coming to America was to experience a new culture and to learn the American ways and traditions. I also wanted to  test my ability to be independent, and to learn that I am capable as a strong girl to make wise decisions on my own.

In closing I just want to say that I hope as I represent my country and my family, I will be able to achieve all my goals. And I hope everyone will be proud of me.

Thank you for giving me this opportunity!!

September 14 Journal

My first month in America has really met my expectations; I have a great host family and I love the school! But the move to America has also been a big change in my life as compared to my life in Norway:

1) The climate is different! Norway is much colder than Florida (and we do not have any hurricanes!!!)

2) The school is much different (In Norway I have only one classroom where the teachers change, not the students, which is the opposite in America).

3) In my school in Norway there are only 800 students compared to 1200 here in Baker County high school.

4) The eating habits in America are very different from the Europeans; everybody (?) in America eats junk food, we eat healthy!! (Maybe we Europeans can teach Americans something new when it comes to a healthy lifestyle...?)  :)

In the end I want to say that I am proud to be able to represent the Rotary club of my town in Norway, and I appreciate the Baker County Rotary Club for my warm welcome, and each one of their efforts in making my stay a great learning experience, and a fun year in Florida!

:)  I know I will have a great year!!!

Thank you!!

Best regards,

"Ricki"
