Marshal's Bio

Hey friends. I am Marshal Patil from India, Rotary District 3030. In India, I live in Nasik which is in the state of Maharashtra. My father is a Rotarian and a "PAUL HARRIS FELLOW" from the Rotary Club of Nasik. My mother is a housewife.

I am an exchange student for the year 2007-2008 in Ocala, hosted by the Rotary Club of Ocala Sunset. About a year a ago my father told that I will be going on an exchange. I had no idea about the exchange program and I never thought I will be an exchange student this year. The reason I chose to be an exchange student was the motive and objective behind this program. Going to the other part of the world, living in a different culture with new people made me quite nervous.

Well, I had this opportunity in my hand which I would never get in my life and I did not miss it! I live here with my host mother and father. They have two children, Robert and Charlie. Well I am very glad that I am a part of such wonderful family. They do not let me feel that I am living in a different part of the world. I really like my host family a lot.

United States is all different from India. The school to the lifestyle of the people. People buy buckets of ICE-CREAM here which is different in India. The big thing I noticed was the pets, every house has a dog pet. I really like my town Ocala and the reason for this is the people living around me .

AUGUST 14-15

Departure from my country India to Orlando

As left my country I was happy and so was my family, but when I landed at London I was very nervous of thinking that how could I live in different country for a whole year. When I reached the Miami airport I had to go through loads of customs and I had the worst experience of my life because I missed TWO flights. But I knew missing flights was a part of EXCHANGE.

AUGUST 16-19

These were the hardest days of the exchange because every where you look around is different. I was a bit jet-lagged but this is the time when you learn to adapt to new surrounding and new people. I attended my school orientation and found the school system was totally different.

AUGUST 24-26 - FIRST WEEK OF SCHOOL

This was something that I was very nervous about. I had no idea how would I cope with different people and studies. On the first day I made two friends and no one was really interested because they did not know that I was an exchange student. Some days later people came up to me and spoke to me - it really felt comfortable.

AUGUST 24-26 - ROTARY ORIENTATION WEEKEND !!!!!!

OHHHH!!! The greatest days of my life. I met my friends from around the world. That was the time I realized that I was not the only one who was miles away from your home. We did things which I could never do in my life. It was a weekend of fun and unity. I wished I could spend some more time.

AUGUST 27 to SEP 03

School life was going on normally. I had made bunches of friends. Saturday I went to see one of the GATORS game. I was amazed to see the old people's enthusiasm and the way they were cheering for the GATORS . The next day I went for a movie with my friends, it was fun spending time with them.

SEP 4-13

I am enjoying my stay here, school is good, have made dozens of friends. I am feeling much better .

ROTARY YOUTH EXCHANGE YOU ROCK !!!!!!!!!

DISTRICT 6970 THANK YOU

December 25 Journal

It's been a quite long time here in the USA and so far it's been really good.

I am really glad that my host Rotary Club and my first loving host family got me into a wonderful school at TRINITY CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL. I mean good staff around you and most important I have made a lot of good friends. Some of my friends are coming with me to India and all of my friends want me to stay with them as a host family. Truly, coming on this great exchange made me realize what life really is. I have come out of a shell.

The host families, they really do a tremendous job, because hosting a student you don't know is a tough job. One thing I like is that my first host family - no I must say my first host mom - she turned me into a GATOR FAN. I really like that. I moved out of my first host family after Thanksgiving, believe me it was it was really tough leaving them L, especially my host brother ROBERT J. But again it's part of exchange and they tell you to change families so you can experience different things.

Disney World was one of my best experiences but a tiring one too because I never walked so much before. I really thank Mr. Jody Davis and his Rotary Club for providing us with extra food money. I just passed through a wonderful celebration called CHRISTMAS, it was something different for me. I got a lot of gifts.

This is all for now, will surely come up with something again soon.
