Aneta's Bio

Hi! My name is Aneta Lysáková, and I will be 19 in February. I am from Czech Republic. It is a small land middle of Europe. I was born in Trebic. Trebic is a bigger town with 40,000 inhabitants. I lived there with my mum, dad, sister, two brothers. Why I wanted to leave my family and become an exchange student? Because I want to know other country, culture, mentality, people. I want find new experiences. I want to become independent. Maybe I want to change my life and I think that is the best way!

Before I started studying here, I attended Catholic grammar school in Trebic. My favorite hobbies are playing guitar, traveling, music, sports (floorball, swimming, soccer, ping-pong...). I like reading and mainly being with my friends.

I want to thank Rotary because this great organization allowed me this wonderful opportunity. Thank you!

September 12 Journal

Hi everybody! Today it is exactly my 25th day in Florida. On the 17th of August at 18:00, I arrived to the Miami international airport. I was a little bit scared because it was my first flight, but everything was OK.

So there I met my first host family! My host mum Paula, host dad Michael, and host sister Nicole. They were waiting there for me with other members of the Rotary Club and exchange student Mona with big placard. I was very surprised. It was so nice.

After welcoming, I moved with my counselor Bob to his house. I lived with him and his wife for a week because my host family had at home a student (Mona) from Germany for a short term exchange program. So I was living with my counselor. It was great, I liked it. During this week I spent a lot of time with Nicole and Mona. We were on the beach, swimming pool, we had a lunch and I had my registration for school.

I went to my first Rotary meeting too. Everyone was very friendly. I really liked it. At the weekend we went to the Orientation near Orlando. It was a very nice weekend. I met a lot of great people.

Day after Orientation, I moved to my host family. It is great . They are very nice. I really like them. They have a big white dog, Zoe. I love her . I never had a dog but I always wanted.

On the 26th of August, school started. At first it was a little bit confusing. The school is so big. It has about 4000 students and my old school in Czech Republic had 300 students so ... And these period lunches. I never knew which lunch I had. I was lost and late sometimes but now everything is OK .

At the weekend I was with my sister at the shuttle launch. The president of my Rotary club took us there. It was really amazing!

I really like it here .

October 19 Journal

I’m here already two months and I’m really enjoying it here! I think that my English is improving so I feel much better than a month ago...

I did so many interesting things this month! My host dad Michael took me to the Metallica concert! It was so amazing!.. I have never seen them before so I was really excited. There were so many people and the show was sooo cool! I really enjoyed it.

Before two weeks came to our house visitors. Sister of my mum Betty her husband Michael and their little daughter Shannon...she was 3 years old and she was so cute. They spent here all weekend. It was really fun. We went to the Seaquarium in Miami and I saw whale and dolphin first time!!:)

I was at few football games too:)..one of these was Pig bowl game. My school (Douglas high) was playing against Coral Springs high school. But we lost by one point..so our principal had to kiss a pig…unfortunately didn’t see it because it was too far

On this Saturday I was in Bowlathon. It was so fun. There were a lot of people from Interact club and from my Rotary club. We were playing bowling...it was fun. There were a raffle too. But I didn’t win anything :P I’m was never lucky in matters like that..

And I must not forget the Rotary weekend with other exchange students!! It was amazing! The everglades was so beautiful and the airboat...so cool!:)

The little alligators were really cute…the big ones not so much..actually they looked pretty dangerous. I can not it imagine that I would have one of this animals in lake next to my house..

The swimming in the ocean was awesome too...and jumping from yacht...so much fun!!!! Thank you for this weekend!!:)

It was really great month..I wish that the next one will be the same!!

April 4 Journal

So here I’m, starting my new report, it’s unbelievable that it is April already. Everything is getting so fast..just three months left.. and just two of school :P! I’m pretty excited for it, because this month was crazy, because of the end of the quarter.

This month was great just.. I did some fun things.. I went to West Palm Beach.. Miami, Melbourne.. I went to see some movies, beach,.. I played some bowling.. just spent time with my friends and family.

Sometime in the beginning of March I went to the renaissance festival. Marco’s parents were going there so they took me, Sanne, and Arno. It was so much fun! We saw some really funny shows, listened music, we were shooting with a bow and arrow. I actually hit the target so I proud on myself :D.

I was also on the bday party (Arno’s), it was really cool, we did some kayaking, there was a hot tub...it was just great time!!

And I can't forget!.. Me and other exchange students went to the Elvis concert. It was really nice to see everyone again. We listened some music, did some dancing.. good time.

Before two weeks I was helping on the Golf tournament which my Rotary club hosted and it was great. I skipped one day of school because of it and it was so much fun. I enjoyed it a lot and I’m glad I was a part of it because my club did such a good job!

The most important thing of March! Spring break started!.. I love it! Last Friday I went with my host family to Melbourne on the east coast of Florida. My brother Josh had a soccer tournament so we stayed there whole weekend. It was awesome, we stayed in hotel on the beach.. we could see the ocean from the windows.. and we saw dolphins! It was my first time, I never saw wild dolphins before. .it was amazing. So we spent some time on the beach.. pool.. soccer field. It was really nice weekend.

On Monday my host aunt, uncle and cousins came. They spent night in our house and then they moved to Fort Lauderdale. Other day other cousins came with their friends. So we spent a lot of time with them. We went to the beach few times.. we were such a big group of people.. about 20 persons..:) They all came over last night, we had really good time.

I’m excited for tomorrow, me and my family are going to my host uncle’s house to celebrate Easter. I look forward to it because Czech and American Easter are really different. I think this is all for now

Enjoy the last days of Spring Break!!:)
