... I arrived. The Rotary was here, and everybody was very nice with me. I
didn’t understand because I didn’t spoke English, but their welcome smiles
gave me joy. I discovered Florida and I found everything is sunshine. My
host mother drove me to the house for the first time. It was Kelly and Mike
Azzinaro. There are young, relax and nice. There have a little girl, Lauren.
She’s three years and she is very cute.
Kelly drove me the first day in my new high school…
Terrible day! I was lost. And I was tired because in American school you
walk every time. I never walk like that in a school! In France, pupils don’t
move to change classrooms, it’s teachers move. Here, it’s the opposite. For
me, the strange it was the absence of breaks. In France, we have breaks. One
in the morning, and another one in the afternoon. The break during 15
minutes where students relax. I was surprised because I liked take my time
for lunch and in American school it’s impossible to take the time. So, in my
first day, I didn’t finish my lunch.
Everything is quick.
It’s just after three weeks I begun to love my school, not
before. Don’t forget my first experience with the school bus, I wake up one
hour before so I don’t miss it! I was very nervous. But, now, I like this
system of bus.
This month, I had my first meeting with the Rotary,
everybody was great. At school, like I didn’t speak English it was very
difficult to have new friends. But students were very nice and patient with
me. Mike and Kelly was very patient too with me, because I think it was not
simple to have a person who didn’t speak English in the house. They were
nice.
One day we went in the Mexican restaurant, and after my
family and me went to the beach. It was my first time here and my big
surprise was cars can drive in the beach! In France, never you see that. I
loved it, very good time.
Don’t forget, this month I see a space shot. With a very
nice woman, Donna. She very nice! I was in her house for one weekend. And
her husband is nice too. She picked me up for the shopping, manicure, and to
see this unforgettable spectacle. It was a perfect weekend.
This month was particular, I loved my new life but all
look at strange for me. I loved people but I can’t understood them. So a
strange month but very intense. My family was very good and I hope it was
okay for them this difficult situation, to have a girl who don’t speak
English.
September ... I changed family, now I’m with Dolbow’s
family. There are very nice. It’s a family with the four children. Parents
are Dennis and Debbie, they have a store, the Deli Market. They are from New
Jersey. Dennis is a very good cook. Debbie is adorable. In children, Dana is
the older, she’s 21 years and study in North Carolina. She’s captain of
field hockey’s team. D.J is 20 years, he works in Deli Market too. He loves
rock music. Aaron is 18 years and he was a exchange student in Japan. And
Carley, she is 13 years and goes to middle school. She loves gym.
With Debbie and Carley, we went to the beach for take
photos, the first week. It was very good time! And, two days after this,
Debbie picked me up early in the morning to go again to the beach, to see
the sun rose. It was wonderful! We took a lot of pretty pictures. The sun
was big and yellow in a red and orange sky. It was beautiful. The same week,
I went with Debbie and Carley buy a book, “The wizard of Oz”, to learn more
English.
Sept. 26/29 in Sanibel ... Debbie, Yvonne and Judy picked
me up to go for the weekend at Sanibel. It was great! The beach was very
large and white. We picked pretty shells, we swam and, of course, we
bronzed.
Don’t forget, the hotel’s bedroom very spacious and with a
very good decoration. Here, I bought a green coat with writing “Sanibel”. I
remember in front of this store, there was a parrot who said every time
“hello”.
Debbie, Yvonne and Judy found very beautiful shells. Me, I
don’t find a lot because I preferred bronze. Debbie found really pretty
shells, and gave me one. It is very nice!
October ... This month, Dennis, Debbie, Carley and me went
to the North Carolina to see a match of Field Hockey very important for Dana
and her team. We arrived on Friday evening at Salisbury, we slept at the
hotel. Next day, we went to Dana’s college. It was huge! And wonderful. We
watched the match. It’s here I did the meeting with Travis, Dana’s
boyfriend. The match was very hard, but it’s finally Catawba’s team –so,
Dana’s team- which won. Unfortunately, I missed the winner goal because at
this moment I spoke with Travis’s friend. It was the first time I saw match
of Field Hockey. It was great!
After the lunch Dana did the college visit for Debbie,
Carley and me. It was really huge! And very nice. In North Carolina, there
are big trees everywhere and old houses. During this time of the year, trees
were red and yellow; the place was very poetic. We took a lot of photos.
After, we were to her house. I did the meeting of Jen, a great girl, and
very lovely. Dana gave me a shirt. It was so nice! We needed put the tie
dyed shirt in the water to have colors. I found Salisbury just wonderful.
In October, there was Halloween. I passed the Halloween
weekend with Alonzo’s family. A very nice family with three girls. The older
is Ember, she go to New Smyrna Beach High School like me. The second is
Marina, she go to the Middle School and she loves to sing. And the smaller
is Natalie, she’s so cute. The parents are Robert and Debbie.
The day of Halloween, I went with Debbie, Marina and
Natalie to the church’s party. Almost everybody had costumes and there were
stands of play with candies for the recompense. It was funny! The evening,
Marina was disguised in evil bride with a lot injuries. It was a very pretty
costume! And Natalie was disguised too. After, Robert, Debbie and girls went
to collect candies. It was good time. There was really good houses with
incredible decorations! This night, I saw my first host family. I was very
happy because I love them. When the collect was finished, we went ate in the
family’s friends.
The next day, it was the Robert’s birthday. For this
occasion, we went to excellent restaurant. It was very nice to invite me
like that! I was very enjoy. It was delicious and there was the sea in front
of here. It’s a very good family.
Other important memory, it’s at this month Debbie began
the teacher’s job in a school.
November ... In November, I made a very good friend,
Candice.
The evening of November 21, she invited me for a
competition of singing which she participated, in Daytona High School.
Everybody in this show was very talented. The more astonishing it was little
girls who singing with an incredible force. And, of course, Candice was
great too. She played the guitar and sang wonderfully good. It was very good
time!
The next day, there was an Interact activity. We went,
with Mary-Margaret and others members, in the beach early in the morning.
There was a marathon and we distributed glasses of water for runners.
And in the November there was Thanksgiving. First
important point about that, my first little American vacations, for four
days. Second point, Dennis excelled to food’s level! It was delicious. And,
last point, the Dolbow’s family was complete. Aaron and Dana came back in
New Smyrna Beach for that. It was good. It smelled the good meal in all the
house. And a big turkey was present.
This day, we went in the beach for taking pictures. The
Dolbow’s family and me. It was nice. I think it’s a Dolbow’s tradition of
take pictures in the beach for Thanksgiving.
End of November, my friend Candice invited me for the
dinner. And for, after, listen to her uncle and her aunt sing. I better know
her mother at this time, very nice woman. And I met her mother’s boyfriend.
It’s Candice who cooked. She prepared Italian diner; it was delicious!
Really very good.
Next time, we went in the wine tasting which her uncle
Tony and her aunt Gina singed. Their talent is wonderful! Again a great
time.
