Sanne's Bio

Hi my name is Sanne Antonsen. I am 17 year old and I am from Denmark. In Denmark live I in a small city called Tistrup. Tistrup is a place on west Jylland. There are only 1500 inhabitants. I live on a farm with my mom, dad, big brother, he is 20 years old and little brother is 15 years old.. I like to go to gymnastics and play different sports (I like to be active)

I have traveled a lot with my family in different countries, and I love to travel and learn about new cultures. So I wanted to become an exchange student, so I could learn a new culture, meet new people and of course lean a new language.

I hope I will get a wonder full year, in amazing Florida.

September 22 Journal

I came to Pompano Beach August 12th, and I love it. My host family lives on canal, and has a boat in the canal. It is a real nice and beautiful place. And my host family is very nice people, I am lucky.

I have started in the Pompano Beach High School, and it is very different from school in Denmark. I have only 4 classes here in America. I take keyboard/piano, American history, math and drama. I start in the school 7:00 o'clock and the day ends at 15:00 o'clock. It is a long day, but so we have free every Friday from school. Three day weekend, not bad. After school I have joined two clubs.

On the weekends I sometimes go to the beach, one day I tried board paddling and snorkeling. Another day my host mom and I were on a boat trip to the ocean, where we jumped into the ocean and swam.

One morning I rode on the bike to the café on the beach together my host parents and Brenda (host mom's sister) so we ate breakfast at the café, at the same time we could look on the ocean, it was fantastic.

In the time I have been here, I have experienced many things. I have been to baseball game together with Arnaud and John Diprato and his wife. And I went golfing together with Arnaud and John, it was real funny. And I went on a boat trip together with my host family. I hope I get many more experiences.

I am very happy that I was so lucky to come to Pompano Beach in Florida.

November 16 Journal

My first Halloween was great. We don't really have Halloween in Denmark, so I was very excited for the Halloween. I had heard about it, a very big holiday in America. The week before Halloween Arnaud, Aneta, Marco, Will and me went to Halloween haunted trail in Pompano. It was a garden, where you have to go around in scary scenes, it was not so big, but it was really good. Saturday night need they help in haunted trail so Arnaud and I went to the park. It was really fun to help, because I saw all the people be scary.

Thursday night before Halloween I went to a big church together with Arnaud and his host mom Susan and her friend. There was 3 different Halloween lands, it was really cool, and big.

Friday before Halloween, I went to Orlando together with my host mom, host sister and her friend and Arnaud. First we was in SeaWorld, we try all the rollercoaster, and we saw sea lion show, shamu show, it was so good. At the night went we to Universal Studios, there was 8 houses with a topic, but we was only in 3 houses because there was so many people. But it was very scary. It was a really good night.

Saturday night, Halloween night. I went to trick or treat down all of my street and back again together with my host sister. I get lots of candy. At Halloween night I went to a Halloween party together with my host family. I have an awesome Halloween.

Last Friday I went to the homecoming game at the school. And my school lost again, we don’t have a good football team. But it was fun - I meet lots of my friends, and we have fun.

December 2 Journal

So I have had my first Thanksgiving and it was great. Back home In Denmark we don’t celebrate Thanksgiving, it's only an American holiday. I celebrated my Thanksgiving together with my host mom’s daughter, Evelyn and her husband Don. I went to the west coast of Florida to an island called Casey Key. It is the home at Don's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Heap.

I was on the beach of the Gulf of Mexico Thanksgiving day where I found a lot of shark's teeth. I wanted to go swimming, but it was so cold and windy, the waves were really big. We went to a country club to eat Thanksgiving dinner. I could eat all the food I wanted. It was really cool, lots of tables with good food and dessert. It was delicious  and after a good Thanksgiving dinner we watched a football game on the TV. Mrs. and I played Chinese checkers.

Friday I went duck hunting in north everglades together with Evelyn, Don and two other guys. We took the airboat and found a good place. We all jumped into the water/marsh. I was concerned there might be an alligator near me. But they told me I was safe and I felt safe because they had guns. We got only one duck, but it was fun, and it was my first time going hunting. But it was so cold; I never thought it would be so cold in Florida. I was wearing three shirts, a really heavy coat, two pairs of pants, big socks, and tennis shoes. The outside layer of clothes was camouflage so the ducks would not see us. But I was still really cold.

My new host mom has a kayak, and she has never tried it before, so we put the kayak in the canal so I could try it. It took only 5 minutes and I was a professional; it was really fun.

And now with Christmas coming, it is so weird for me; I always have a cold and freezing Christmas in Denmark. So I don’t really feel the Christmas atmosphere, because I am going around in shorts and watching all the Christmas things and Santa Claus; but I hope it will come. And here in Florida there are lots of plastic Christmas trees. I will get a different Christmas this year, but I am sure it will be a good Christmas.
