Simona's Bio

Hi, my name is Simona Mulas, I am 16 years old and from Italy. There I live in Cagliari on Sardinia, a large island in the Mediterranean. I have also lived on Sicily and Milan, where my brother is in University and where I want to study also.

I have been here 1 1/2 months and I can say time here passes so quickly! I am really lucky because my host family is very nice and they treat me like a real member of the family. and help me when I feel down. I stay with the Carroll family and my Mom is the District 6930 Chair of YE and my sister Austin Carroll is living with my family in Italy!

Thank you Rotary for helping me come to Florida!

October 6 Journal

I go to St. Edwards School in Vero Beach, it is a private school and smaller than others in Florida about 400 students. I like it because everybody is friendly and helpful and knows me already. Also I am on the volleyball team but unfortunately I cannot play in games yet - we are waiting for the people at the State of Florida athletic teams to approve me, so now I just work out at the practices and help the coach keep stats at the games.

In September I went to Universal in Orlando with a friend and her family and to Ft. Lauderdale and visited two Rotary Clubs in Palm Beach and two here in Vero Beach. I had a lot of fun at Universal and I stayed at the Hard Rock Hotel.

My week is very busy with homework and practice and on the weekends I like to watch the HS football teams and then go hang out with all my new friends. I also like the beach just down the street from my house. I like to go out to dinner with my family to taste all the different American foods. I have had sushi, Mexican, country, BBQ, seafood, Australian steaks, and others too.

My school here is very different from Italy. Here I follow just 5 classes but there I took 13 classes. In Italy we go to school Monday to Saturday 8 AM to 1:30 PM, but here are very long days from 8 to 6 after my practice, then homework.

January 2 Journal

It is now 5 months that I'm here and I must admit that time has passed really quickly. Things are going really great at school with friends and family. About the latter I have just changed my second family and there are no words to describe how basic needs are fantastic and I love them already. Mi treats me like her daughter, making me feel at home without me thinking of the family that I have in the real Italy and I miss literally every day. I also have a new sister, Sophia. I love her just as it was my real sister.

During these months I have had the chance to do some traveling: with the first family (also fantastic) I went to Texas for about 5 days and I could not stop myself from buying the traditional cowboy hat hihih :). Then I went 4 days at Disney World with all the guys of the Rotary of Florida who have been the most beautiful of all. During that weekend we visited all 4 parks and we had the chance to meet and exchange information and opinions about our respective countries, but now I can not wait to arrive in late January to go to the so-called SEACAMP:).

Christmas was very beautiful but also "strange" is because this was my first time away from home for Christmas, but I must admit that my first family has been very good at making me feel at home by covering it with many beautiful gifts hihihi :)

New proposals for the new year? Certainly put more commitment to school and begin a new sport never experienced in my life - "crew". I hope I like it and that I am passionate:)
