Tim's Bio

Hello everybody. My name is Tim Hornuf, 16 years old and I am from an average city in Germany called Worms! It is in the southwest of Germany and one of the oldest cities in Germany. In Germany I live with my big brother, Jan (19) and my parents, Ute and Kai. And now we have David as an exchange student from North Carolina.

In Florida I live in Weston, very close to Fort Lauderdale, with my host mother Candy, my host father Jim and my host brother Devin Norton. They are great! In Weston, I go to the Cypress Bay High School as Junior this year. This school is very different to mine because they have 5100 pupils and my school at home has 1300. My school is so one of the biggest school in the country.

I am happy to be here and "thank you" to my host Rotary Club in Weston and to my sponsoring Rotary Club in my hometown Worms.

September 20 Journal

Hello! Now I am here since over one month … sitting in my room and looking back to the things I've done: I live in a wonderful place next to the Everglades in city called Weston…30 minutes away from Fort Lauderdale.

My first high school football game was great. The fans were great, the game was great (we won!!! Go Lightning!) and the cheerleaders were amazing :-P

A few weekends ago I went to a rodeo with my host family. It was very exciting! But at the end it was really bad because a bull kicked the balls of a cowboy…but he won the rodeo tournament so I guess it is okay.

I visited the Rotary meeting of my host club twice since I am here and I really enjoyed this! Even though it is very early. Last weekend I went with the ex-president of my host club Deborah O'Conner and her husband to a Marlins game. Unfortunately it was canceled because of rain.

This week I'll have a swim meet with the swim team of Cypress Bay High School versus Flanagan High School! It'll be a very tough competition. Both teams are really good! But the Lightning will kick their butt!

December 3 Journal

Hello everybody, now I am already here for 3 months! And I still make new experiences everyday. I made a lot of friends and I have so much fun in my school and on the "American weekends". Chatting with my friends and family got less so my homesickness is almost gone! Of course I miss Germany but the people here in Weston help me to enjoy my awesome exchange year and don’t think about Germany too often.

Last months I had Thanksgiving with my great host family and we had a lot of food. It is a really nice holiday before Christmas which I will celebrate in Germany next when I go back. I also had my first water polo tournament in America with my new team which was so much fun. Unfortunately, I didn’t play too much because I am new or not good enough... I don’t know hahaha. In the end we lost the final game against Mexico by one point. After that game everybody was a little bit disappointed. So we are looking for redemption in the next game against Mexico!

All in all I really enjoy my time in sunny Florida! And my hottest November in my whole life!
