Omar's Bio

Hey, my name is Omar I am from Brazil, I was born in São Paulo (SP) but I moved to Londrina (PR) very soon because this is where my mom is from , I live in a house there that is pretty big and I am always thankful about that. I am 17 years old and in I am going to finish my school year here in the United States. I have had a lot of contact with rotary since 2008, because I hosted an Exchange Student from South Africa for 4 months and last year another Exchange Student from Finland 4 more months and my mom is a Rotarian, actually she is the Inbound Coordinator in my district so I always meet new Inbounds that come to my district (4710).

United States was my first choice, so I am very glad that I am here, it wasn’t easy to be here and I hope that everything goes well. Right now I am living in Jacksonville, I live very close to the beach (four blocks) and this is a new thing for me because in Brazil I’m not used to go to the beach because I live more than 4 hours from the coast.

I am very happy that I could come to the US, it is the first time that I am out of Brazil and I am really enjoying the experience, I just want to say thank you for everybody that helped me to be here, it is a beautiful thing what you all are doing.

Hey.. So, two months its already been past and I don't miss my biological family yet, why? Because for sure, I have the best host family ever!

For me the way that I am treat here it is so similar from the way that I'm treat in Brazil so I feel like Im a member of the McIntyre family, my mom it is the best person that I already meet in my holl life and I thank every day about that.

A new thing for me it was having a brother, because I have two sister and I always been use to this, but now I have a brother and its very different because I hang out with him every time! For sure he is one of the most important persons that I meet here, plus some exchange students that I hang out a lot, I consider my self a very lucky person for all these things.

The school (Fletcher High) for sure its very different then I tough, because we always have this ideas from the movies that we see when we are in our home countries but its completely different, at the beginning things were a bit difficult because of language but surely getting easier and I hope it stays that way and we can go out of campus to have lunch and this is pretty cool.

I already been to many places here like, Daytona, Gainesville, Orlando, St. Augustine... because I really enjoy going to a lot of places and I think the exchange is an opportunity to do that things too.

Another thing that is very different it is the food, they have all this fast food and they don't have an certain to have lunch, actually its not even a meal its just something to eat, like in Brazil we have big lunches and we use to eat stake almost every day and here I just ate one time!

Recently I discover that my sister in Brazil is going to an exchange too and she is coming to United States, then she asked me which state she should go and the only answer that I could say was: "I think the state or even the country that you do the exchange doesn't matter, what really matter its your host family, if their nice, your exchange for sure will be nice."
