Dzien
dobry! Hello, My name is Sarah Zeh, and I'm so excited to be apart of the
Rotary Youth Exchange program.
I go to Lyman High School in Longwood, Florida. I've been looking to become
an exchange student for some time now, and the principal of my high school
mentioned Rotary, brought me a bunch of information, and ever since then
I've been more the excited to be apart of it.
I've learned that I'll be going to Poland, and even though it wasn't my
first choice, I was ecstatic when I got the phone call. I feel that this
opportunity will give me a chance to learn more about myself, and give me an
insight to how people in other countries live. I know that through this
experience I will become a better person, as well as make me more confident,
and more outgoing. I'd like to thank everyone a part of Rotary that has
worked so hard to put this program together and that I feel so fortunate to
be chosen to represent my country over in Poland! |

Wow,
that is the only word I have to describe my first two weeks in Poland. I
have done so much in these first two weeks that it's hard to tell how long
I've really been here! I'll start off with my plane flights from Orlando to
Warsaw. Long and tiring are the words that describe my first experience
traveling alone. Let's just say it was not the best experience, seeing as I
missed my flight from Munich to Warsaw. Thanks to Rotary training, I made it
to my final destination safe and sound. Staying calm and being organized is
the best advice I could have received from my Rotary members who have dealt
with that situation before. My host parents where very understanding! My
host father helped me stay calm as tears started streaming down my face; he
kept saying "Do not worry! Do not worry, everything is alright!" When I
arrived in Warsaw they greeted me with open arms. I took
a trip around Warsaw and got to see the old part of the town.
The most interesting thing I found in Warsaw was the protesters in front
of the “polish white house” protesting the placement of a cross, and the
monument for the people that died in the plane crash. My first meal in
Poland was peroggies of course! Pasta stuffed with anything you could
possibly dream of! They were delicious.
Next stop was my host parent’s house about 3 hours car ride from Warsaw.
My room is comfortable, and I love seeing my host brother Adrian’s
accomplishments hanging on the wall. The view from my room is fantastic, I
get to see a beautiful back yard and I have a great view of houses and the
forest. I can’t wait to see everything covered in snow!
The next thing I experienced was language camp, for 11 days. I had so
much fun meeting all the other RYE students in Poland. Everyone was so
welcoming and I can’t wait to share some of my experiences with them
throughout the year. I learned a lot and I got to visit
a lot of beautiful places in Krakow during my stay at the language camp.
School starts on Wednesday and I’m very nervous but excited. These first
few weeks have been outstanding, and I’m so lucky to be a part of this
program. Thank you Rotary and district 6980. Also Rotary club of college
park!
