My name
is Vanessa Brandt and I am 16 years young. I was born in Maui Hawaii but
quickly moved to Miami, Florida to live there until I was 12; I then made my
way a few hours north to live in the humble town of Gainesville. In addition
to being born in Hawaii I am also of Japanese, Jamaican, German, Haitian and
Scottish descent. Currently as far as school I am a sophomore at
F.W.
Buchholz High School, home of the Bobcats! As a junior I will go through a
life- changing experience as I travel across the world to the Faroe Islands.
As my excitement and nervousness grows, I would like to share a little bit
about me, the old American me, that is!
I am a
very outgoing, loyal teenager. I love to make people laugh and also helping
people. Though, I cannot tell a fib, deep down I am a huge nerd who
endlessly enjoys AP European History, Psychology and even French. Clubs are
also a large part of whom I am; whether it is through the community service
events I plan/attend as an officer of my High School’s key club, to learning
even more about numerous cultures as the Secretary of International Club or
even improving my business skills in my Entrepreneurship programs DECA club,
I love staying active in my school and community.
Aside
from extracurricular activities I am a huge fan of American football (go
Miami Hurricanes) as well a now-and-again photographer, a hobby I’ve grown
to love. My love for music is also a big part of my life. The reggae beats
of Bob Marley, soothing serenades of Dave Matthews band and even the hard
rock feel of AC/DC keep me going everyday with their inspiring songs and
music.
Overall,
I truly believe that life should be lived to the fullest and that all people
are interesting, everyone, everywhere around the world. I cannot wait to
experience Danish/Faroese culture and gain even more appreciation for the
world!
I want to thank
Rotary for this amazing opportunity. Without the help of all the dedicated
Rotarians around the world and this wonderful program, I would never have
this chance. I also want to thank my family for all their love and support,
my friends for their encouragement (even though many of them don’t
understand my reasoning for doing this), and most of all, God, for giving me
the opportunity to do Rotary Youth Exchange. |
