I was born in Dallas, Texas and lived there until I was almost ten years old, then I moved to Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. Currently, I live with my family one mile from the beach. But, this is going to change, because next year I am going to Indonesia! My family includes my Mom, Dad, two younger brothers and a younger sister. My siblings names are Jesse (15), Carly, (13) and Clay (11). I am the oldest at 16 and enjoy the benefits that come from having seniority, although the fact that I have more chores than my younger siblings makes up for this. We own a dog named Barron, who is possibly the laziest creature on this planet. I love my family so much, and I am looking forward to gaining more family members while abroad.
I go to school at Ponte Vedra High, and I love it. My favorite classes include Chinese and US History. I have lots of friends in my classes and I love talking to them. In my free time I swim on our high school’s varsity team. This year our team went undefeated and we were the district champions, I went to regionals with my team in the 500 freestyle. I have been swimming my whole life, and competitively since I was ten. I also hang out with my friends outside of school, although a busy schedule often makes this difficult. I am very active in my Church and go to Bible study classes every morning and church every Sunday. I have always been interested in other cultures, and I think the Rotary program is the perfect way to really experience the culture of a different country. I don’t want to read about the celebrations and traditions. I want to live them. Some people don’t understand why I would chose to miss my Senior year, leave my friends and everything that is familiar to me. I want to do this exchange because I know its the best way to learn and I know that I won’t regret missing prom, I would regret passing up this life changing experience. This year I want to fall in love with a new culture, a new home, and a new family. I want to grow as a person, and learn to relax and have fun. Thank you so much to Rotary for giving me this amazing opportunity. |
