Well hello there! My names Andrea Wassner, I'm 16 years young and I have the incredible privilege to say that I am going to be a Rotary exchange student! It hasn't really sunk in that I really am going to be an exchange student, it probably wont until I'm on the plane. Now the big question is, where am I going?! Well I can say that you probably don't know WHERE it is! And you've probably never even heard of it! I get to go to the absolutely GORGEOUS Faroe Islands!!! I bet your on Google right now looking it up, don't lie, you know you did it!
Anyway a little about me, I am 16 but I will be 17 for a majority of my exchange. I am a very outgoing, loud, crazy and bubbly red head! I am easily pleased and entertained! I love to laugh and make people laugh! I love to break the mold and be the change! Why should I try to fit in when I was born to stand out? And did I mention a major klutz! I remember at interviews when they asked me to tell them about an embarrassing moment and how I dealt with it and it took me a moment to respond and they misunderstood and said "it doesn't have to be too personal" and I couldn't help but laugh because I embarrass myself on an hourly basis! So picking one time was a challenge! I'm currently a sophomore at Gulf Breeze High School. What class I'll be in over in the Islands, I have no clue but I have a feeling that I'll be a freshman again...awesome. I play volleyball at my high school and then when that's done I play on a traveling team and finally play beach volleyball. To say the least, it rules my life! I still manage to balance it with friends, family, volunteer work and a job, its hectic but it makes my life interesting!
I'm from a small city called Pensacola but I live on Pensacola Beach, so hopping from one island to another will be fun! I live with my aunt, uncle, and younger sister not to mention a dog and a bird. Though I have an older brother who lives in Pensacola. I LOVE History!!!! (I am such a nerd for European History!! ) And I hate peanut butter (**GASP**), needles and frogs!
I can't wait to trade my sugary sand beaches for waterfalls and cliffs! Not to mention SNOW!!! I'm from Florida so yes that means that have never ever EVER seen snow! I'm sure that will blow a few peoples minds up there. There are two things that are going to be my motto's going into this: 1. Have an open mind to all this and remember that things over there aren't "weird" there just different (Amber Herrle taught me that one). And 2. that NOBODY tell me whats in the food!!!! No seriously, please don't tell me what it is until I have determined if I will eat it again.
I can't even begin to thank Rotary for this amazingly amazing opportunity! And to Larry DiPietro for answering my endless questions! I also want thank my Grandma for encouraging me all through this crazy experience! Even from the git-go she was right there to tell me to do it, even when I doubted myself.
You know when its Christmas eve and those last few hours seem to take forever (kind of ironic considering its only 5 day until Christmas!) until you can open your gifts!? Yeah, it's like that, but times a trillion! These 7 months I have to wait, are going to be the longest months of my life! But its worth it because at the end of these months I get the ultimate Christmas gift! |
