My name is Haley Eyring and I live in Tampa, Florida. I am 15 years old. I'm currently a sophomore at Howard W. Blake High School which is a magnet school for performing arts. My major is Chorus. I also participate in Cheerleading and Track.
I am very excited that I have been accepted to be a RYE student in South Korea! I know it will be different and challenging, especially considering the fact I don't know Korean but I'm ready to give it my all and accept each challenge with a positive attitude.
As the summer gets closer, every day I get a little more nervous. It will be interesting for many reason but the one that sticks out the most is that I've never been out of the U.S. and the longest time that I was ever way from my family was when i went to Washington D.C. for a week. It will be scary at times when the person you want to talk to for advice isn't there, but I'll learn to overcome those obstacles. As time goes on I will trust and look to my host family for guidance. At this point in time, I'm anxious to see what's in my future and can't wait till I arrive in South Korea! Thru this exchange I hope to discover more about myself in adapting to another way of life and gain/share knowledge of what another part of the world has to offer. This is one of those once in a life time chances and I'm honored to receive it. Thank you Rotary, for this amazing opportunity I'll get to experience.
