Dzień dobry! My name is Leslie Gibson and I live in Tampa. I attend an IB Program at Robinson High School and will graduate in June of 2012. Before going to college, I will be spending a year in Poland!!!!! I live with my parents, brother, and chocolate lab. My parents are supportive, loving, and are encouraging my exchange year and I know my brother will miss me. (He won't tell me, of course). I play volleyball and tennis and am attempting to learn guitar right now! Every summer I go to Colorado for camp and this year I will be on staff. I'm a vegetarian-a challenge in a country with a diet of meat, potatoes, and cabbage. My favorite classes in IB are History, Psychology, English, and ToK. The majority of what I know about Poland is from my 20th Century History class.
I learned about Rotary Youth Exchange in Colorado from my friend who went to Argentina for a year. I fell in love with the idea and a few months and 5 copies of an application later, here I am! I still can't believe that I will be living in a foreign country for a year. Ever since I was little I wanted to travel and felt a need to do something off the beaten path. An exchange year is perfect for me. I'm independent and know that I can adapt to the various situations I will face in Poland. I hope to be fluent in Polish and learn about the culture from the inside. Who knows what kind of person I will be after this incredible year? I am so grateful to my family and to Rotary for this experience. I definitely believe this was meant to happen and I cannot wait to start my year! Do widzenia! |
