Nicole's Bio

Konnichi wa!

My name is Nicole Marie Viera and I am about to embark on an amazing experience and study aboard for a year (the school year of 2012-13) in the absolutely gorgeous Japan! I am currently 16 years old, but will be 17 when I leave, and am currently a junior at Creekside High School! Though I was born in Charleston, South Carolina I have lived in various parts of the United States my entire life; due to my father being apart of the US Navy. Some of those places include California, Rhode Island and, obviously, Florida! Thanks to my family's love to travel, I have also been able to see various parts of the Caribbean and Europe, but I have yet to experience what life is like in Asia, let alone live in a country other than the United States!

When I am unable to travel though, I do enjoy playing tennis, socializing/being with friends and participating and/or learning new things! I am a very curious and adventurous person that just wants to see it all and, most of all, understand! I find this program perfect for me because I will be able to immerse myself into a country and live within their culture and become apart of it. I am thoroughly excited and cannot wait to see what life in Japan is like. Some people ask me if I'm ready to experience culture shock in which I always reply with a confident, "No worries, I'll be fine, it'll be fun!"

I suppose you could say I am also very confident, but I believe it is best to be as positive as possible and to not let the negativity overwhelm you. It only makes you sad and there is no fun in that. Seriously, everyone should have the opportunity to live their life in complete happiness!

I cannot wait to learn new things in Japan. Wether it is customs, the language, lifestyle, or simply what someone happens to be passionate about, I want to know! I am very excited for this experience and extremely grateful for Rotary Youth Exchange to allow me to be apart of it all! This will all be extremely worth it and I cannot wait to begin my journey! I want to thank everyone, even all the paperwork, that helped push my way through and allowed me to become an exchange student! Especially my parents who, even though they originally found my idea crazy, allowed me to apply into program in the first place!
