How to Become a Rotary Exchange Student

Maybe you've gotten to know one or two of our exchange students in your high school, and you wonder if you could do what they are doing. Or perhaps you heard about our program from a teacher or guidance counselor, or at a presentation by Rotary. However the seed was planted, if you think you might be able to do this, then you owe it to yourself to follow up, learn more, and consider applying.

Rotary Youth Exchange programs are open to students ages 15-18 years**. To qualify, applicants should be above-average students who have demonstrated leadership in their community. Candidates should also possess qualities such as flexibility and a willingness to try new things that will enable them to fully experience life in another country and become excellent cultural ambassadors.

This program extends one academic school year; from August-June.
All applicants must be sponsored by a local Rotary club and complete a written application and in-person interview. The fee for 2019-2020 is $5,500 (plus a non-refunable $150 application fee).

Rotary International strives to create and maintain a safe environment for all youth who participate in Rotary activities. To the best of their ability, Rotarians, Rotarians’ spouses and partners, and other volunteers must safeguard the children and young people they come into contact with and protect them from physical, sexual, and emotional abuse.
