Inbounds Arrive, Outbounds Depart –
A New Exchange Year is Underway
In airports all around Florida,
Rotary Youth Exchange outbound students are boarding flights to begin
their exchange adventures, and inbound students are being welcomed by
new families, host clubs, and communities.
RYE-Florida is exchanging with over
30 countries this year, sponsoring and hosting a total of over 140
students. Among them are our first inbound students from Iceland and
Indonesia, and our first outbound students to Estonia, Greenland, the
Netherlands, and Paraguay. The largest group of inbounds comes from
Brazil – no fewer than 12 Brasileiros are part of the inbound
class. France is next, with 6 students coming to Florida. Brazil is
also the most common destination for outbounds, with 8 Florida students
heading south to the home of samba and Carnaval. Belgium, Japan, and
Taiwan will each be hosting four Floridian teens in 2010-11.
We wish the outbounds “Bon Voyage”
and the inbounds “Welcome”, and we look forward to reading about their
adventures in website journals throughout the year.
Here are some of our inbound
students arriving across the state:

RYE-Florida Welcomes District 6890
Rotary Youth Exchange Florida is most pleased to announce that District
6890 has decided to become active in Youth Exchange, and will become a
member of our RYE-Florida organization. The district is located in the west
central part of the state, and includes the city of Tampa along with Hardee,
Highlands, Hillsborough, and Polk counties.
District 6890 Governor Elect Ed Odom was the force behind the move, and
he found an enthusiastic partner in his designated Youth Exchange Chairman,
Peter Vaka. Several clubs in the district have already indicated their
desire to get on board, and, following the official certification from
Rotary International, District 6890 will welcome its first inbound students
in August.
With the addition of D6890, all of the Rotary districts in the Sunshine
State are now part of RYE-Florida. Together, the eight districts consist of
over 400 Rotary clubs, and more than 20,000 Rotarians.
